It is a question after all whether this suction

main should be taken up, as of course even with the very large

storage capacity of this proposed Low Level reservoir the saving

in iift of pumps by getting water from the Heservoir now under

construction would mean a considerable saving in coal consump-

It may be possible with ample boiler power at the Fumping Station to steam electrically driven centrifugal

pumps for dealing with leakage into Dar foundations and so avoid

cost of a End, and temporary Boiler-house and plant on the site.

An economy would be to have the core below

ground also of Ahampoa mud, but i prefer the concrete.

A saving can be effected here by simply sloping

off at a convenient angle and allowing the down stream side of

Dan to be merely a beach.

in connection with dredging over the base of

the Dam an item of expenditure has been omitted and that is

dredging or excavating over the whole area (tide wasted) for

a depth of some feet to reduce the possibility of sait contam-

-nation.

This is a very heavy item of extenditure and 1

think $2.50 a cubic yard excessive. Nock drills will reduce the

cost considerably.

The work should be done departmentally as

suggested or by an "uropean Contractor.
